Roger H. Epstein

Roger Epstein practiced law at Cades Schutte beginning in 1972, and chaired its Tax Department from 1985-2016. He currently consults on international tax and business matters as the sole member of Lokahi Consulting, LLC.  

Mr. Epstein has experience in Asia as well, dating back over forty years when he began providing US tax advice to major Chinese and British clients in Hong Kong. He was one of the first American attorneys to visit mainland China in the early 1980’s, and has represented numerous Japanese corporations doing business in the US. Roger is presently co-founder and General Counsel of the Asia Pacific Group. 

Mr. Epstein co-founded the US-China Legal Network and the Asia-Pacific Network Foundation and was instrumental in the execution of cooperating agreements between the Hawaii State Bar Association and Bar Associations and Judicial Districts in Shanghai and Suzhou, and the development of their programs for visiting Chinese lawyers in Hawaii. 

He is an Adjunct Professor of Tax Law at the University of Hawaii Law School. He was a Professor at the Bewai Foreign Studies University Law School during the Spring semester of 2018, where he taught Legal Writing and US Tax Law. He has published a number of articles on US and International Tax Law, and is a regular lecturer at tax conferences in Hawaii, the continental United States, and internationally.
